The New York Yankees enter Sunday afternoon’s series finale against the Philadelphia Phillies sitting second in the AL East with a 56-48 record. They are 6.5 games behind the first-place Toronto Blue Jays, and with 58 games remaining in the regular season, things are starting to heat up.
However, the Yankees were dealt a tough blow after 2024 AL MVP Aaron Judge suffered a right flexor strain during the sixth inning of Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays. Judge made a throw home in an effort to prevent the tying run and ended up feeling pain in his elbow.
The seven-time MLB All-Star then played through it on Wednesday against Toronto and on Friday against Philadelphia but sat out on Saturday. The Yankees would go on to lose 9-4 to the Phillies without him, and after the game, manager Aaron Boone spoke about his star player's injury.
“With that strain, if you go out there and play with it, you put the UCL in jeopardy," Boone said. "We've got to get that healed up."
Fast forward to Sunday morning, and the Yankees officially placed Judge on the 10-day injured list, which is retroactive to Saturday.
The team also announced two other moves, recalling left-handed pitcher Brent Headrick from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and adding infielder/outfielder Amed Rosario to the active roster.
Prior to today’s game, the Yankees made the following roster moves:

• Recalled LHP Brent Headrick (#47) from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
• Placed OF Aaron Judge on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to 7/26) with a right flexor strain.
• Added INF/OF Amed Rosario to the…
Judge admitted his injury had heavily impacted his throwing ability.
“I couldn’t throw past 60 feet,” Judge told Boone after Friday's game. “We’re going up against a Phillies team, they can hit the ball over the park. I just didn’t want to put our pitchers in jeopardy, just not be able to come up and make a play for them.”
Judge wasn’t thrilled about going on the IL and felt he could still make an impact in the batter’s box without having to throw out in the field.
“I really was reluctant about going on any IL or anything like that,” Judge said. “I was like, ‘If I can hit, let me hit.' I’ll start DHing, I think, once this 10th day is up.”
Judge will be eligible to return on Aug. 6, when the team is in Texas to face the Ranges.
