Yankees Manager Aaron Boone Suffers Triple Loss vs. Red Sox

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone pushed the wrong buttons during Tuesday night's Game 1 loss to the Boston Red Sox.

The Yankees needed a gem from All-Star pitcher Max Fried in Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series. Well, they got just that. Fried gave up four hits and pitched 6.1 scoreless innings for his squad before being pulled for Luke Weaver.

Unfortunately for Fried, his gem was completely erased by Weaver's lackluster performance. The right-handed reliever gave up two runs and put the Yankees in a tough 2-1 hole. The Red Sox later grabbed an insurance run off David Bednar in the ninth inning.

As if losing Game 1 to the Red Sox wasn't bad enough, Boone was blamed for mismanaging his bullpen.

Boone, however, doesn't regret his decision. He claims he took out Fried at the right time.

"I felt like his command was not as good those final few," Boone told reporters. "He's just making so many big pitches, and his stuff was good. He gave us what we needed and felt really good about the outing he put forth, but I felt pretty convicted. Especially we got the double play, it's like, 'Let's go get one more hitter and be good.'"

Jazz Chisholm upset with Aaron Boone?

Boone didn't just make a questionable move going from Fried to Weaver. Before the game even started, fans noticed that he rolled out an analytics-driven lineup.

Despite batting .242 with 31 home runs this season, Jazz Chisholm spent Tuesday night on the bench. The Yankees played Amed Rosario at second base over him.

Following the team's 3-1 loss, Chisholm spoke to the media with his back turned to them.

"I’m not even mad at Jazz….he should be pissed," former Yankees outfielder Cameron Maybin wrote on X. "The man just had a 30-30 season and then gets treated like a platoon player is unacceptable. The third player in Yankees history to achieve a 30-30 season (joining Bobby Bonds and Alfonso Soriano)."

We'd have to imagine Chisholm will be in the lineup for this Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

The Yankees need a Game 2 win in order to keep their season alive.
