Yankees manager Aaron Boone taking medical leave of absence to receive pacemaker

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone is taking a medical leave of absence from the team to receive a pacemaker and will undergo surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, Fla., on Wednesday, the club announced.

The 47-year-old said in a statement that he has been feeling lightheaded over the last month and has been dealing with low energy and shortness of breath. After several tests and meetings with doctors, it was concluded that Boone has a low heart rate.

It's currently unclear when Boone will return to the team. According to Boston Scientific, it can take "a few days to a few months to fully recover from the procedure."

Boone has served as New York's manager since 2018, leading the club to a 236-148 record. As a player, he played for the Yankees for about half of the 2003 season, delivering a walk-off home run vs. the Boston Red Sox in Game 7 of the ALCS to send New York to the World Series.
