Yankees option Miguel Andujar to alternate training site

The New York Yankees optioned infielder/outfielder Miguel Andujar to the club's alternate training site on Thursday.

Andujar, 25, enjoyed a breakout 2018 campaign when he hit .297 with 27 home runs and 92 RBI. As noted by Dan Martin of the New York Post, Andujar broke a record for most doubles tallied in a season by a Yankees rookie once held by legend Joe DiMaggio, and he finished second in American League Rookie of the Year voting behind Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels.

Things began to come apart for Andujar in April 2019, however, when he suffered a shoulder injury that sidelined him for the bulk of the year. He returned to the club reportedly healthy for 2020 spring training before the coronavirus pandemic caused the league to suspend play until July.

In only eight MLB summer appearances, Andujar hit a paltry .095/.136/.095 with two hits, a run scored, a walk, and four strikeouts.
