The Yankees sent right-hander Alexander Cornielle outright to their Florida Complex League affiliate, per a team announcement. He was designated for assignment on Tuesday when Giancarlo Stanton was activated from the 60-day IL. Cornielle passed through waivers and will remain in the minors with the organization.

It’s the first outright for Cornielle, so he had to accept the assignment. The righty made his MLB debut last week against the Orioles. He covered the final inning of New York’s victory in the second game of a doubleheader. Cornielle allowed two earned runs on three hits, but did pick up his first two MLB strikeouts.

The Yankees took a flyer on Cornielle after he departed the Brewers organization. The 25-year-old missed the first two months of the minor league campaign with an injury. He returned in late May and quickly worked his way up the ranks. Cornielle reached Triple-A by mid-June. He spent most of the season with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The righty posted a 3.10 ERA across 72 2/3 innings with the RailRiders.

Cornielle worked as a starter in 20 of his 21 minor league outings this season. He was mostly a starter during his time with Milwaukee as well. The Yankees didn’t lean on him for much length in his lone appearance, but he has the arsenal to operate as more than a short reliever. Cornielle has three fastballs (four-seamer, sinker, cutter) and a sweeper. He used all four pitches in his lone big-league appearance.
