Luke Weaver will take the mound for the New York Yankees on Easter Sunday, sporting a glove with more than just style, but on representing his deep faith. Weaver, the Yankees dynamic reliever, uses his gloves to express himself on the mound.
On Easter, he is breaking out a special version.
"The glove that I typically wear is a Bible-based glove," Weaver told YES Network reporter Meredith Marakovitz. "It's originally brown, but I wear blue because I think it's a little swaggy. There are some blue Bibles that have come into our Earth, but yeah, it's subtle. There's some verses in there, there's a thorn crown—just subtleties of what's near and dear to me."
Weaver's glove design is always a testament to his faith, blending spiritual symbols with his own distinctive style.
"It’s a way to represent what I believe in, along with some cool swaggy stuff," Weaver continued. "Guys like to represent themselves through subtle details. I just want to make sure that when I'm out there, I'm grounded."
Some Yankees fans might find this surprising.
Weaver is more known for his quirkiness off the field and his intensity on the mound.
"Even though I'm a little psycho on the mound sometimes," Weaver admitted with a laugh, "I do try to get back to knowing what my real purpose is."
So, Easter weekend to Weaver is a chance to celebrate his faith, gratitude for his life and career in baseball.
"It's a really cool weekend—as always, a very impactful one," Weaver concluded. "I'm just happy to be playing baseball for a living."
