The New York Yankees were able to get back in the win column and avoid a second straight sweep after beating the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday with a score of 7-3.

It was a much-needed sigh of relief for New York after struggling to maintain dominance in recent weeks.

The team endured a six-game losing streak that tightened the AL East standings, leaving the Yankees with just a 2.5-game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays as they head into a series with the Baltimore Orioles.

New York was given some positive news on Friday, as bullpen pitcher Luke Weaver was activated from the injured list after being out since early June with a hamstring strain.

The Yankees' right-handed pitcher was originally supposed to miss over a month of time after suffering the hamstring strain during a bullpen session on June 1.

After throwing a live session on Tuesday, manager Aaron Boone and the Yankees believe that Weaver looks like he's back in full-form.

His rehab process went smoothly, and Weaver was cleared for baseball activities, triggering him getting activated from the injured list.

The Yankees closer didn't start the 2025 season as their primary closer, but after Devin Williams struggled to find a groove in the first part of the season, Weaver was inserted into the role as the primary man and has performed well.

Weaver has been able to continue as one of the best bullpen pitchers in all of baseball this season, posting a 1-1 record, eight saves, a 1.05 ERA, 0.70 WHIP, and has struck out 24 batters in 25.2 innings pitched.
