The New York Yankees have settled on a replacement for radio announcer John Sterling after his retirement.

According to Ryan Glasspiegel of the New York Post, the Yankees are nearing a deal with current Seattle Mariners television broadcaster Dave Sims to make him the team's voice on WFAN. The deal is not yet finalized, and New York would have to approve of WFAN’s choice, though it is hard to believe the deal's terms would be discussed without the team's go-ahead.

The 71-year-old Sims is an established choice. He has called Mariners games since 2007 and has multiple decades of national experience, including with ESPN and a stint as the lead voice for Westwood One’s “Sunday Night Football” radio coverage. He has some ties to New York, as he hosted a sports talk show for WFAN from 1989 to 1993.

Sterling leaves behind big shoes to fill, and he had some highly entertaining commentary about the Yankees’ shortcomings during the playoffs. Fortunately for Yankee fans, Sims has previously shown the same penchant for brutal honesty.
