Yankees Reportedly Showing Strong Interest in Cubs Top Trade Targets

The Chicago Cubs understand that, heading into the trade deadline, many teams around Major League Baseball will attempt to acquire some of the players they are interested in. Among those will be the New York Yankees, a squad that simply has to make the postseason to satisfy their fan base, a team expected to be heavily aggressive at the deadline.

According to a recent report from Bob Nightengale of USA Today, this could be bad news for the Cubs and a few other teams around the league.

Nightengale has reported that the Yankees would love to add any of the Arizona Diamondbacks' top trade candidates, naming many of the same players the Cubs reportedly have interest in.

“The New York Yankees, who would love to acquire Diamondbacks All-Star third baseman Eugenio Suárez and either starter Zac Gallen or Merrill Kelly at the deadline, have no choice but to be aggressive. Sitting home in October would be nothing short of disastrous,” they wrote.

Competition isn't the worst thing for the Cubs at the trade deadline, mainly because they have a much better farm system than the Yankees. However, if a player like Zac Gallen or Eugenio Suarez tells the Diamondbacks they want to go to the Yankees and the trade packages aren’t much different, perhaps they throw their veterans a bone and allow them to pick their next destination.

In that event, the Cubs could be in a weird spot.

However, Chicago is also an excellent City, so it'd be unlikely to see a player specifically say they don't want to play for the Cubs.
