Yankees seemingly ready to move on from Jasson Dominguez

The New York Yankees have their ideal outfield in mind.

Aaron Judge is a fixture in right, a position he will hold into the next decade. Trent Grisham is back in center after accepting the qualifying offer, with prospect Spencer Jones expected to make his major league debut at some point during the upcoming season. The Yankees want to bring outfielder Cody Bellinger back after a productive season in the Bronx, but have identified a fallback option in Kyle Tucker.

One name that has not been mentioned for the outfield mix is Jasson Dominguez. The Yankees' top prospect heading into 2024 had been viewed as a potential five-tool player and a future star in New York. He showed that potential during an eight-game stint with the Yankees in 2023, belting four homers in 33 plate appearances before landing on the Injured List with a torn right UCL, which required Tommy John surgery.

New York Yankees may be ready to move on from Jasson Dominguez

Although he was unable to replicate his 2023 success, Dominguez had a solid first half to the 2025 season, posting a .266/.343/.417 batting line with eight homers and 15 doubles over 309 plate appearances. However, he lost playing time when he slumped in the second half, posting a .236/.300/.318 batting line over 120 plate appearances, hitting two homers and three doubles.

Dominguez will be 23 years old at the start of the 2026 season. As a former top prospect and with plenty of time to develop, he would seemingly be wasted as a fourth outfielder. Instead, he could be a useful trade chip for a team willing to take a chance on his pedigree and tools.

The Yankees may find themselves without any other option but to keep Dominguez. Bellinger and Tucker could sign elsewhere, leaving the Yankees with a hole in left. However, Dominguez could still fetch a solid return. Given the myriad of holes on the roster, trading Dominguez may be the right move to contend in 2026.
