Yankees Showing Strong Interest in Two Players Red Sox Want

The American League East is the best division in Major League Baseball, and it's tough to ignore any longer.

The Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, and even others in the division, when everything goes as planned, play above-average ball.

The Red Sox got a much-needed win on Sunday against the Chicago Cubs, sitting at 54-47.

However, the Red Sox are still five games out in the American League East, as the Toronto Blue Jays have gone 7-3 over their past 10. As the Yankees, Blue Jays, and Red Sox all look to improve their rosters, there's a good chance they'll be looking for multiple of the same players.

According to a recent report from Bob Nightengale of USA Today, that appears to be the case with the Yankees. New York has an interest in two starters the Red Sox have been linked to.

"The Yankees and Red Sox, each looking for a starting pitcher, have sent scouts to watch Diamondbacks starters Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly in Phoenix, with the Yankees also keeping a close eye on third baseman Eugenio Suárez (32 homers, 80 RBI)," Nightengale wrote.

It still remains uncertain what the Diamondbacks plan to do, as they're playing decent baseball coming out of the All-Star break.

Sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals over the weekend, at this point, anything could sway the Diamondbacks in the opposite direction and look to be buyers, or just not move anyone at all.

The reality of the situation is that the Diamondbacks are an above-average team, and if things were to go their way for a month or two heading into October, there's a very good chance they'd be a team nobody wants to play.
