Yankees To Call Up Top Prospect for MLB Debut
USA TODAY Sports

The New York Yankees will reportedly call up No. 2 prosect Jasson Domínguez to make his Major League debut against the Houston Astros this weekend, per MLB.com.

That would make Domínguez the second outfield prospect the Yankees have called up in the last two weeks. The Yankees called up No. 3 prospect Everson Pereira recently.

The Yankees are also expected to call up catcher Austin Wells from Triple-A for the series, per Inside the Pinstripes' Pat Ragazzo.

Domínguez is currently at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre, where he was promoted on Aug. 22. In nine games he slashed .419/.514/.581/1.095 and drove in 10 runs.

Before his promotion he was named the Eastern League Player of the Week for Double-A Somerset for the week of Aug. 14-20.

That week went 13-for-28 (.464) with eight RBI, eight runs, two home runs, five doubles, three walks and one stolen base. He had two four-hit games, tying his career-high mark for a game.

With Somerset, he slashed .254/.367/.414/.781 in 109 games and hit 15 home runs and 66 RBI. He left the Eastern League as a leader in several categories, including runs, walks, hits, stolen bases, RBI, total bases and on-base percentage.

The Yankees signed Domínguez out of the Dominican Republic in July of 2019 and he has progressed through the system since he was assigned to the minor leagues in 2021 (there was no minor league baseball in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

For his three-year minor league career Dominguez has slashed .266 /.372/.431/.803 with 36 home runs and 154 RBI. He also has 54 doubles, 11 triples, 212 runs and 86 stolen bases. He has earned the nickname ‘The Martian’ due to his propensity for hitting tape-measure home runs.
