Yankees’ top prospect to begin rehab assignment Tuesday or Wednesday

The New York Yankees believed Jasson Dominguez would begin his rehab assignment at some point this month, but we finally get some form of an official day for that. Aaron Boone addressed the media prior to their second game against the Rays this series, and he told reporters that the switch-hitting phenom was set to begin his rehab assignment on either Tuesday or Wednesday. The Bronx Bombers could get even scarier, as their top prospect could provide some help if their outfield were to experience an injury or someone were to hit a massive skid.

Last season showed that Dominguez could become a star in this league, and the Yankees could see him back in action for the first time in months this week.

Jasson Dominguez Is Set to Take Another Massive Step Towards Return to Yankees

One of the most hyped-up prospects the Yankees have had in recent memory, Jasson Dominguez got off to a fast start when they promoted him to the big leagues last year. He belted a home run off of Justin Verlander in his very first swing and would belt three more in the following games as he totaled four dingers in eight MLB games. He hit .258 with a 162 wRC+, barreling the ball frequently and showing off his excellent raw power in his brief time in the Bronx.

At the Minor League level, he was impressive as well, hitting 15 home runs with 40 steals in 118 games where he posted a 122 wRC+ and .377 OBP. His feel for the strike zone and improved contact abilities allowed him to fly through the Minor Leagues, as he didn’t take long in Triple-A before forcing the Yankees hand for a call-up in September. He’s one of the most exciting young players in baseball, but an unfortunate UCL tear has sidelined him since the second week of September.

Aaron Boone told reporters that he would begin his rehab assignment on either Tuesday or Wednesday, but that doesn’t mean the Yankees will bring him back as soon as he’s done. The Yankees have gotten a ton of production from their outfield early on and they won’t rush Dominguez back from an injury that typically takes time to fully adjust from. Last season we saw Bryce Harper struggle to hit for power upon his return from TJS, although he didn’t have a lengthy rehab assignment beforehand.

The Yankees have made it clear that they will not rush Jasson Dominguez though, and we should anticipate that he stays in the Minor Leagues until a clear role for him is created at the Major League level.
