The Chicago White Sox received a dose of positive momentum from the farm system Monday, as both Colson Montgomery and Yoendrys Gómez were named International League Players of the Week.
Accolades for Montgomery in particular are a breath of fresh air as the White Sox former top organizational prospect dropped off the top-100 lists of multiple publications. Gómez, who Chicago claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers in May, claimed the award after a dominant performance against the Toledo Mud Hens.
Montgomery had an impressive series, destroying Toledo pitching for four homers, two doubles, one triple, eight RBIs, and nine runs scored. The stretch of five games included multi-homer games on Thursday and Sunday.
ANOTHER multihomer game for Colson Montgomery -- starting to sound familiar?

Montgomery's early-season struggles earned him a reset in Arizona, where he worked with White Sox director of hitting Ryan Fuller. He appeared in five Arizona Complex League games before returning to Triple-A.
His slash line is still a paltry .220/.296/.445 on the season, but improving since his desert tuneup. Notably in June, he's slashing .281/.338/.672 with 11 extra base hits in 64 at-bats, an encouraging development in the power department.
It is a stretch to call Gómez, who has pitched in the major leagues for three different clubs, a prospect at the age of 25. Nevertheless, five innings of shutout baseball with nine strikeouts isn't something to overlook. He's made eight appearances for Charlotte, six of which were starts. He's fanned 29 in 20.2 innings, with a 2.61 ERA and 1.258 WHIP.
With the trade deadline approaching and multiple pitchers potentially on the move, the South Siders will likely give Gómez a shot to prove himself in the season's final two months.
Montgomery, in particular, could be knocking on the door of a promotion to the big leagues soon if his recent power surge continues. With the Pale Hose ranking last in team OPS and SLG, they are in dire need of some power, which Montgomery can provide.
