Tuesday night ended up being all about Arizona as the Diamondbacks defeated the San Francisco Giants by a score of 8-2 at Chase Field.
Zac Gallen started off slow on Tuesday but settled in as the game went on. Gallen only allowed five hits and two runs in seven innings pitched. That wasn’t necessarily the case for Hayden Birdsong, as he started strong but unraveled as Tuesday night went on.
San Francisco had an opportunity to get another run across the plate in the top of the third inning, though Rafael Devers was thrown out at the plate by Alek Thomas, and after a great tag by catcher Brian McCann. In the bottom of the third, Arizona was able to get on the board and bring in a run as the Snakes cut the lead to 2-1 after a Geraldo Perdomo single was able to bring in Brian McCann.
Jake McCarthy had a massive moment on Tuesday night when he hit a three-run home run to give the Diamondbacks a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. wanted in on the fun and hit a two-run home run to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the D-Backs a 6-2 lead. Gurriel Jr. had had home runs in back-to-back games against the San Francisco Giants.

The offense didn’t let up there, as Arizona was able to hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Randal Grichuk hit a solo home run to deep center field 453 feet, which was the third longest home run at Chase Field this season. James McCann hit one right after for his first homer as a member of the D-Backs to give Arizona an 8-2 lead.
