The UFC has officially booked a high stakes light heavyweight showdown for UFC 321, as Aleksandar Rakic looks to snap a three fight losing streak against undefeated Russian contender Azamat Murzakanov on October 25.

Currently ranked No. 8 in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings, Rakic is fighting to reclaim momentum in a stacked 205 pound division. Murzakanov, ranked No. 11, has been on a tear and now gets the biggest test of his career against a seasoned top-10 opponent.

With Rakic desperate to bounce back and Murzakanov eyeing a breakthrough into the elite, this clash has major implications for the light heavyweight title picture.

Aleksandar Rakic (14-4) was once viewed as a future title challenger, with explosive striking and a strong all around game. But injuries and a three fight losing skid including setbacks to Jan Błachowicz, Magomed Ankalaev, and Jamahal Hill have derailed his momentum. UFC 321 might be his last shot at staying relevant in the top 10. Azamat Murzakanov (13-0) remains undefeated and has steadily climbed the ranks with patient, calculated performances. A former Dana White’s Contender Series alum, he owns UFC wins over Devin Clark, Dustin Jacoby, and Volkan Oezdemir. With a win over Rakic. Murzakanov could launch himself firmly into title contention.

This is a pivotal crossroads fight at 205 pounds

For this matchup, we have two fighters whose careers are going in the opposite directions of each other. But with an upset by Rakic. He can meet his undefeated opponent halfway. What once looked like a promising career at light heavyweight can become revitalized. Which is something that he desperately needs to happen. Or else the idea or thought of him ever becoming a contender again will be a thought of the past.
