, Alessandro Costa will have more than just his own fight to think about when he steps into the octagon on September 13. The UFC flyweight contender (14-4 MMA, 2-2 UFC) not only faces Alden Coria at Noche UFC in San Antonio, but he also intends to fulfill his role as a cornerman later that same night.
Costa’s teammate and close friend Diego Lopes headlines the card against Jean Silva, and Costa has no plans to miss the opportunity to support him.

“That’s right. I intend to win my fight as quickly as possible and leave unscathed,” Costa told Hablemos MMA in Spanish. “That’s the goal and that’s what I’m training for, and that’s what will happen, and I’ll be right there in his corner.”
Ideally, the setup would work both ways, but due to Lopes’ main event obligations, he won’t be able to corner Costa earlier in the evening.
“Unfortunately, we can’t do that,” Costa admitted. “It’s not on him, but on the UFC. But oh well, I’ll still get the job done.”
Costa and Lopes have been in each other’s corners throughout most of their fighting careers. Since both made it to the UFC, that dynamic has changed, particularly when they appear on the same card. Still, Costa emphasizes the value of Lopes’ daily presence in training camp.
“It’s important for him to be in my corner,” Costa explained. “He does sparring with me, he trains with me every day, and he helps me put the game plan together. But we’re getting used to this… We also have two UFC fighters training with us here and helping us out, so if we can’t be on each other’s corner, we still have to get the job done.”
Noche UFC 2025 will mark Costa’s first fight in over a year. His last appearance came in May 2024, when he stopped Kevin Borjas via TKO. He was set to compete at last year’s Noche UFC but was sidelined by a knee injury that required surgery.
Now fully recovered, Costa insists he is back to 100 percent.
“I have zero percent of fear,” he said. “If I signed the contract, it’s because I truly feel 100 percent. I wouldn’t sign a fight if I didn’t. I’m happy, I’m not anxious. I’m just happy with how I feel and that I’m sharing a card with Diego, who’s headlining. It’s a big event, Noche UFC.
For Costa, the September 13 matchup represents not only a comeback from injury but also an opportunity to continue climbing the flyweight ranks. And while his own fight is priority number one, his role in Lopes’ corner underscores the tight-knit bond that defines their careers.
Noche UFC could be a career-defining night for both men one in the main event spotlight, the other pulling double duty as fighter and coach.
