Alex Pereira revealed last month during an interview with Ariel Helwani that he wanted his coach and close friend Plinio Cruz to return to competition.
The UFC two-weight champion suggested a move into boxing could be possible, adding that he would like to be present in Cruz’s corner if it happens.
That scenario now appears closer to reality, with social media exchanges fuelling speculation about a potential crossover bout.
Last Sunday, Cruz took to social media to call out Chase DeMoor for a Misfits Boxing clash, writing: “I thought you had finished your studies, but I’ll take you back to school kid, let’s scrap at Misfits Boxing. Chama”.
Pereira quickly showed his support, responding publicly: “I’d like to see this fight”.
The exchange comes weeks after DeMoor reacted to footage of Pereira discussing Cruz’s potential return, stating: “I’ll beat him up and then his fighter next.”

The back-and-forth has built momentum around a possible bout, with Pereira’s backing adding further attention to the potential match-up.
DeMoor represents a significant test if the fight materialises.
He is the current Misfits Boxing heavyweight champion, holds a 5-1 record within the promotion and is ten years younger than the Brazilian coach.
The American also defeated Andrew Tate, who has an important kickboxing background, by majority decision in December 2025, boosting his profile in crossover boxing.
While Cruz brings fighting experience, the physical disparity and his ongoing weight loss process could make this a very challenging match-up.
