With sights fixed on a UFC White House return next year, Alex Pereira has responded with a challenge to middleweight boogeyman Khamzat Chimaev.
Seemingly gung-ho on a massive heavyweight leap in pursuit of a blockbuster fight with Jon Jones on the White House lawns next summer, Alex Pereira issued a new challenge to the Rochester star this week.
And with a pairing against Jones on his radar, Pereira has himself been the topic of interest for unbeaten middleweight star Khamzat Chimaev.
However, in a new offer to Chimaev to potentially settle their differences, Pereira is less than open to standing opposite the Chechen, in the Octagon at least.
Less than equipped to take on the best grapplers in his division, Pereira has offered Chimaev the chance to compete against him, with a caveat, however.
Addressing a potential matchup with the undefeated middleweight kingpin, Pereira claimed he would be open to a grappling match with Chimaev, with the proceeds of the matchup going to a charitable organization.
“He (Khamzat Chimaev) says he wants to fight me, he’s gotta get there,” Pereira said on Instagram. “He’s far. But I could challenge him to a fight in his area.
“Let’s fight in grappling. UFC BJJ, let’s make it happen,” Pereira continued. “The money will be 100% donated to charity. That work (sic) for you? Chama.”
Recently taking aim at Pereira and his team, a former champion who currently trains the Sao Paulo star also had a word of warning for the brash Chechnya favorite.
Finding himself on the receiving end of Chimaev’s wrath when addressing a fight with Pereira, former light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira has offered a response.
As far as Teixeira is concerned, the oldest light heavyweight champion in UFC history is still ready to engage with Chimaev if they ever cross paths, offering a distinct warning.
“I’m retired, Chimaev,” Teixeira said. “But I’m around. You mess with me in the lobby of the hotel, anywhere you see me — you mess with me, I’ll snatch the life right out of you, man.”
