Alex Pereira offered ‘money fight’ in bid to delay heavyweight blockbuster with Jon Jones

Amid plans to make another division move against Jon Jones, light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira has been offered a “money fight” to delay his climb.

Seeing a pairing with fellow former two-weight titleholder Jon Jones gain some more traction over the weekend, Alex Pereira was met with an interesting response from the Rochester native.

Hoping to secure a super fight at next summer’s UFC White House event, Pereira would conceivably make a second weight class change just four years into his Octagon run.

However, with a certain contender awaiting his chance to topple the Sao Paulo star, Pereira has been offered a “money fight” by the surging star.

Carlos Ulberg claims Alex Pereira clash is ‘the big fight’

Octagon-side for Pereira’s demolition of Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 320 earlier this month, surging City Kickboxing star Carlos Ulberg staked his claim for a clash with the Brazilian.

And hoping to become the second star from the Australian gym to topple Pereira, Ulberg has been sounded out as a credible threat to the Brazilian’s reign.

As far as he’s concerned, Pereira should only be considering a fight against him, long before he makes waves in a heavyweight leap.

“I’d love to fight Alex (Pereira),” Ulberg told MMA Junkie. “That’s the big fight. That’s the money fight. That’s an entertaining fight. That’s the fight fans would love to see and watch. I hope that he sticks around the light heavyweight division so that I can fight Pereira.

“That would be amazing,” Ulberg continued. “That would be the fight that I always wanted. You beat someone like Alex, that just means you’re at the top level. This is putting all the guys out of the picture, but I want Alex.”

Alex Pereira’s history with City Kickboxing

Sharing a vast history with City Kickboxing and its tactician Eugene Bareman, Pereira has prevailed more often than not against the Oceanic outfit.

Coming unstuck against their most high-profile talent, Israel Adesanya, Pereira’s most recent loss before his defeat to Ankalaev this year came against the Nigerian-Kiwi in his ill-fated middleweight conclusion.

However, in their well-documented rivalry, Pereira boasts a 3-1 record — stopping Adesanya to win UFC gold, having knocked him out in kickboxing before a contentious decision win in the same sport.
