The release of Muhammad Mokaev left fans and analysts alike stunned, despite his undefeated record.
With a 7-0 record, the second-longest winning streak of any flyweight in UFC history, analysts believed that Mokaev was on the path to a shot at the flyweight title.
The news of the release was even more surprising considering the positive factors.
Following his departure from the UFC, Mokaev migrated to the BRAVE Combat Federation where he has found some success and will begin exploring a new opportunity.
Mokaev recently announced his debut in Karate Combat, scheduled for May 2 in Dubai.
The young combat fighter took to his social media to share his excitement saying, “My first ever sport was karate, then I moved to wrestling. I just wanna compete and stay active and build my striking experience. I always will have plan B which is wrestling but I need to work on plan A.”
The release comes on the heels of a ‘lackluster’ victory over Manel Kape at UFC 304.
UFC CEO Dana White cited some undisclosed, behind-the-scenes issues as the reason for Mokaev’s departure.
It will be interesting to see how well Mokaev readjusts as he returns to his MMA/heavy wrestling roots.
