Yoel Romero’s entry into BKFC was not exactly subtle.
The former UFC and Bellator contender made his Squared Circle debut to salsa music, blowing a horn as he walked out.
Even at 48, Romero was a huge favourite going in. Bookmakers had him at -2000 against Doukas, while he came into the fight in outstanding condition.
He made it look easy too. Facing Theo Doukas, who entered with a 2-2 record in MMA and was listed as a +750 underdog, Romero did not waste much time showing why there was so much confidence behind him.
The opening round saw a measured start, with Doukas holding his own and Romero taking some time to find his range.
Things shifted in the second, as Romero began to settle in and land more consistently. Despite being warned by the referee not to use superman punches, he found success with his left hand.
Doukas beat the count, but blood was already flowing from a cut on his head.
Romero kept up the pressure and dropped Doukas again, this time with a sharp uppercut. Late in the round, another knockdown followed, leaving no doubt about who was in control.
The referee stepped in to stop the fight before the round ended. It was exactly the kind of performance you would want for a debut, clear and decisive.
If there was any doubt about Yoel Romero’s future, his latest display made it clear he is sticking around BKFC.
Despite being close to 50, the former UFC title challenger has not slowed down. The win over Doukas marked his fourth straight victory across different combat sports.
In PFL, he has defeated former UFC title challenger Thiago Santos. He also holds victories over Duane Crespo and Ras Hylton in Dirty Boxing.
After his latest result, he is open to fighting for the BKFC cruiserweight title next.
