Brother of Former UFC Champion Fighting to Save His Career

Getting compared to a far more successful sibling can be difficult, especially when that sibling has reached the pinnacle of the sport of mma by winning a UFC belt and establishing a longstanding championship reign.

Mohammed Usman, brother of Kamaru Usman, faces Hamdy Abdelwahab for a confirmed upcoming bout in May for UFC Fight Night: Qatar. Usman enters this fight after suffering two consecutive losses, and one more defeat could mean his release from the UFC.

After a hot start in the UFC rattling off three consecutive wins, Usman had a difficult 2024 when he was handed his first two losses in the promotion at the hands of Thomas Petersen and Mick Parkin.

Standing opposite Usman is Abdelwahab, who is riding a wave of momentum following a split decision victory over Jamal Pogues at UFC Fight Night in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia earlier this month.

Outside of his relationship with his older brother Kamaru, Mohammed Usman built up his own name after winning season 30 of “The Ultimate Fighter” in 2022. In the season finale fight, Usman knocked out Zac Pauga in impressive fashion, winning himself a UFC contract in the process.

He will need some of that fortune come May against Abdelwahab, as a victory could revitalize Usman's career and position him for more high-profile matchups. The stakes are high, however, and a defeat might lead to his release from the organization.
