Bryce Mitchell and Jean Silva seemingly settle feud as grappling match is a draw after backstage brawl

Bryce Mitchell and Jean Silva’s grappling rematch saw the pair fight in and out of the ring on a wild night in Brazil.

The featherweight duo’s first meeting was a one-sided affair that ended when the Brazilian put his American rival to sleep at UFC 314 last April. However, they never made up and the feud appeared to only get more bitter over the last year.

And tonight, they got the chance to compete again in the ring in an eight-minute submission only grappling bout for Hype FC. However, they couldn’t wait until ring walks to get to each other as they got into a fight backstage.

If ever there was an expectation that things would go off the rails tonight, it would have been during this match between Bryce Mitchell and Jean Silva. Both men are outlandish characters, and have shared a heated rivalry for over a year now.

The pair had both packed on considerable weight since their Miami meeting, with Silva tipping the scales at 170lb while Mitchell was as big as 178lb. They were each 146lb when they weighed in on the Friday before their meeting last April.

Mitchell appeared to be getting testy before even getting into the ring, but surprisingly he and Silva shook hands to start the match before the American went for the collar tie. The Brazilian got his opponent down first with a reversal 45 seconds in, but neither was able to do much afterwards.

Silva then tripped Mitchell to take top position, imposing his natural size even though his rival was heavier on the scales. The American attempted to scramble to his feet after getting back on top, but almost got caught in a heel hook.

The home competitor Silva goaded the crowd to garner a reaction with a minute to go, as both men struggled to get any major moves going. The Brazilian went for a final heel hook but it was reversed, and Mitchell jokingly pointed to the middle.

They embraced after the fact as Mitchell gifted a young fan a bible, and it seems that there is real respect between the two now.

Prior to the match, Mitchell and Silva got into it backstage after the Brazilian attempted to shake hands with his rival. When the American slapped his hands away, Silva shot in for a takedown and they were quickly separated.

Mitchell did throw a few kicks while on his back as the two teams brawled, before it was all eventually separated and they got on with their warm-ups. It was the latest scandal on a night of outlandish events in and out of the ring.
