Dana White’s plan to draw attention away from one of Jake Paul’s three main events tonight didn’t seem to bother him much.
Just as Francis Ngannou was making his way to the cage for his MMA comeback, White went live on Instagram with some major UFC news.
He announced that Conor McGregor will be back in action on July 11 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, taking on Max Holloway in a rematch.
Paul didn’t seem to know about White’s announcement when speaking with the media after the event. But he did point out that it showed there was clear interest and concern from the UFC about their huge show.
In the lead-up to the event, there had been talk that Dana White might use Most Valuable Promotions’ card as the platform to officially announce Conor McGregor’s return – something fans have been anticipating for weeks.
White, who has always spoken highly of Ronda Rousey and Nate Diaz, chose a different moment. Instead of making the announcement during their bouts, he waited until Francis Ngannou’s walkout – a fighter with whom he’s had a well-documented history of friction.
When Jake Paul was informed about what happened, he needed a moment to recall before commenting:
“Ohh the head is back? That’s cool, bro. Drop it during our event, it doesn’t matter that just shows how pressed they are.”
“Little insecure boys trying to piggyback off our event and trying to put some news over top of us, it’s not going to work buddy.”
