Conor McGregor Put on Blast for Not Showing ‘Unmatched Loyalty’ by Former Best Friend

In the fight business, loyal friendships are rare and fans often see long-time friends turning their backs on each other. The same thing happened with former UFC champion Conor McGregor and his old training partner/ex-UFC fighter Artem Lobov. In his prime years, McGregor was close to the Russian-Irish fighter, but in recent years, their relationship took a dark turn.

From being friends who would always stand up for each other during their beef with Khabib Nurmagomedov, everything has now changed drastically. McGregor and Lobov, once inseparable teammates, were locked in a legal battle involving disputes over their previous business deals and financial interests. In a recent interview, Lobov’s discussed current relationship with ‘The Notorious.’

Obviously, things are not good between me and Conor. As you said, we always had each other’s back. I feel like I showed him unmatched loyalty. I would dare for him to name anyone from all of his mates now, before, whenever, who was more loyal to him than I was. I did everything for him.

Lobov mentioned that he never accepted money from McGregor after helping him during intense training camps and preparations for fights. However, he did take cuts from some of McGregor’s business ventures where he played a major role in mobilizing deals. The former fighter also discussed McGregor’s downfall and how fans might still witness his prime version return someday.

Now, Conor couldn’t even make it to a press conference with a sore toe. That’s not the same Conor, this isn’t the guy that I know. I want to see the old [Conor] back and then I feel everything would be sweet between us as well, we could get the band back together. If he was at 100 percent, we would be able to bring Khabib back as well. I think Khabib would come back for that fight if Conor was 100 percent, on his feet, and making real fights.

Artem Lobov continued.

The rivalry between McGregor and Nurmagomedov began when the ‘Eagle’ confronted Lobov in a hotel, allegedly slapping him over disrespectful comments. This incident angered McGregor, who flew to Brooklyn and infamously attacked a UFC bus carrying Nurmagomedov and other fighters.

Things escalated further at UFC 229, where the Dagestani defeated ‘Mystic Mac’ and a wild post-fight brawl broke out. To make matters worse, the relationship between the Irishman and Lobov also started to worsen.

The legal feud between Conor McGregor and Artem Lobov

Conor McGregor found massive success in the liquor business with Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey, quickly becoming a global bestseller worldwide. He later sold his majority stake in the brand for a reported $600 million, earning an extraordinary return on investment. However, things turned sour between McGregor and Artem Lobov in 2022, when the ex-UFC star claimed involvement in the whiskey’s creation.

Lobov alleged that he helped conceptualize Proper Twelve and was unfairly cut out of profits despite his early contributions. McGregor denied the claims, and a court later ordered Lobov to cover legal fees after his lawsuit was ultimately dismissed. However, the former fighter stayed true to his comments about his involvement with the Whiskey business

I told him about the dominance of Irish whiskey and all of that…I used to work in the bar at the Radisson Hotel and I had a friend who worked in the bar with me…Once I got that information, I went on and met all different whiskey distilleries. I called some and met some in person. I did my research and put a beautiful deal together. Once the deal was ready, I went to Conor and I said, ‘Conor, I have the deal ready for you. This is going to be a billion-dollar deal, no messing here.’

McGregor furiously responded to Lobov’s lawsuit, posting multiple angry voice notes and tweets directed at his former teammate. He accused Lobov of betrayal, mocked his financial motivations, and referred to him as a “rat” who broke personal promises for money. The ‘Notorious’ also revealed court details, demanded compensation for legal fees, and threatened further legal action if Lobov persisted publicly.
