Conor McGregor has revealed that he will fight in April of 2027 after he returns from a five-year layoff next month.
McGregor is set to rematch Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 329 on July 11, but will have to wait for the best part of a year before getting back out. He hasn’t fought since 2021, but was famous in his heyday for activity including fighting four times in three different weights within a year.
The April fight will serve as the final one on his UFC contract, and he will test free agency once that is complete. McGregor unveiled the news on an explosive episode of The Ariel Helwani Show today in which he let slip a number of interesting nuggets.
During an appearance on tonight’s Uncrowned show, Conor McGregor told host Ariel Helwani that he has signed for not one but two UFC fights. He will face Max Holloway on July 11 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, before being shelved again until April.
Bloody Elbow understands that a key part of McGregor’s negotiations for the Holloway fight was that he would be given two dates. This will allow him to plan for free agency as the second matchup will be the end of his UFC contract.
McGregor told Helwani that he is keen to give Michael Chandler his chance after their years of build-up. He also would prefer if the fight was in December, even telling the promotion that he would still honor the April date if he were allowed one more before year’s end.
