Conor McGregor has shared an update on his ongoing discussions with the UFC regarding his return to action.
Previously, Jon Jones revealed that he is in talks to fight at the White House, following Alex Pereira’s decision to vacate his light heavyweight title.
He is not the only superstar interested in making an appearance out of the Oval Office on June 14.
‘The Notorious’ has also been involved in discussions, though there are reports that talks have taken a different direction.
McGregor has spoken about his ongoing talks with the UFC, saying that while a summer return is likely, it does not necessarily mean he will be fighting at the White House.
Ariel Helwani has reported that International Fight Week on July 11 looks like a more realistic option for the Irishman’s comeback, given the financial side of things for the UFC.
The costs tied to staging an event at such a historic venue are already steep, and adding McGregor’s appearance fee on top would only increase expenses for the promotion.
‘The Notorious’ has now said he is confident about returning in the summer but added that nothing is finalised yet regarding when and where that will happen.
He was clear about this when speaking to Drink Litt on Instagram: “So, I am in negotiations with the Ultimate Fighting Championship about the bout. Either the White House or there or thereabouts. Sometime in the summer, McGregor will return.”
The former champion has made no secret of his interest in headlining an event at such an iconic location. However, if plans change and another event takes priority, it could shift how his return unfolds.
While revealing the main event for UFC 327, Dana White also shared some news about when fans can expect details on the White House card.
He wrapped up his Instagram Live session last Friday by saying an official announcement should be coming in the next few days.
“This week, I should be announcing it,” he repeated, giving fans another reason to keep an eye out for big news soon.
If the announcement has not been made by then, White will almost certainly face questions about it during the post-fight press conference at UFC 326 in Las Vegas this weekend.
