‘The Notorious’ still has the White House in his sights following some recent updates.
Conor McGregor has made it clear that he hopes to return to the Octagon in 2026 having not competed since July of 2021.
The opponent that he would face in his long-awaited comeback was seemingly locked in for some time.
However, earlier this week Dana White said he’s no longer interested in McGregor fighting Michael Chandler after years of build up.
There are few options that make sense for the biggest star in the history of the sport but one that does has seemingly suggested that he could be the man welcoming the Irishman back.
Conor McGregor responded to Dana White’s recent comments by stating that it doesn’t matter who the UFC decides to put in front of him.
Michael Chandler was the most logical option for his comeback opponent due to their history and cancelled matchup in 2024.
While the likes of Jon Anik have suggested other options for McGregor, there are several names who could also make their return to the Octagon in order to compete against ‘The Notorious’.
Jorge Masvidal recently turned down a boxing match because he didn’t want to upset his chances of fighting in the UFC again.
In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Masvidal didn’t confirm that he’s fighting McGregor next, but he did say that the huge plans for him will be revealed in the near future.
“I can’t really say too much, but I am training for something big. Something VERY big. I have some fight news coming soon, and it’s very big news. And I can’t deny or confirm [if it’s McGregor].
“I’m Trump’s favourite fighter, just remember that at all times. I can’t deny or confirm any of that right now, but hopefully soon I can. Maybe in 10 days, something like that.”
It’s hard to imagine the UFC booking Conor McGregor against the vast majority of lightweight or welterweight fighters that are signed to the roster.
Jorge Masvidal may have announced his retirement after suffering four consecutive losses inside the Octagon but he’s still a big name that hasn’t fought the Irishman before.
On the other hand, another option that would make sense for McGregor at the White House in June is an opponent that he’s very familiar with.
A trilogy fight with Nate Diaz has always felt like a button that the UFC could press at any time to guarantee themselves a massive fight that sells itself.
