The transformation of the White House into a UFC venue is officially underway. Construction crews have begun building the temporary arena that will host UFC Freedom 250 on June 14, with new photos circulating online showing the early stages of setup on the South Lawn at White House.

With less than three weeks until fight night, the White House grounds are beginning to resemble a major sporting venue more than the traditional presidential residence at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

The UFC previously released renderings of the planned setup, featuring:

  • A temporary 5,000-seat arena
  • Massive staging and lighting structures
  • “The Claw,” a giant overhead rig shipped from Europe specifically for the event
  • The White House serving as the visual backdrop for the octagon

Dana White has repeatedly stated his vision is for viewers around the world to immediately recognize the White House behind every fight broadcast shot.

Event Expected To Cost More Than $60 Million

According to TKO executives, the event is shaping up to be one of the most expensive productions in UFC history. TKO Group Holdings president Mark Shapiro recently acknowledged the budget is a “moving target” expected to exceed $60 million. The UFC reportedly does not expect the event to turn a profit, though sponsorship revenue could offset a large portion of the cost.

Notably:

  • No public tickets will be sold
  • The audience will consist primarily of invited guests and military personnel
  • Additional fans can watch from the nearby Ellipse on large outdoor screens

The UFC will also reportedly cover restoration costs for the South Lawn following the event. However, security costs coordinated by the Secret Service and local law enforcement will reportedly fall to taxpayers.

Big Fight Card Headlined By Topuria vs. Gaethje

The event itself may become one of the biggest nights in UFC history. The card is headlined by:

  • Ilia Topuria vs. Justin Gaethje for the lightweight title
  • Alex Pereira vs. Ciryl Gane for the interim heavyweight championship

Additional featured bouts include:

  • Sean O’Malley vs. Aiemann Zahabi
  • Derrick Lewis vs. Josh Hokit
  • Michael Chandler vs. Mauricio Ruffy

The ceremonial weigh-ins and press conference are scheduled for the Lincoln Memorial.

Event Coincides With Trump’s Birthday

The event takes place on:

  • Flag Day
  • The 250th celebration theme tied to American independence
  • President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday

Trump’s longtime friendship with Dana White has become a major talking point surrounding the event.

White has:

  • Spoken at Republican National Conventions for Trump
  • Frequently appeared alongside Trump at UFC events
  • Publicly credited Trump for helping elevate UFC during its early years

Now, the relationship culminates with the UFC bringing a live championship event directly to the White House lawn.
