Dana White is quick to dismiss any idea that he intentionally tried to upstage Francis Ngannou’s return last weekend.
The UFC president happened to go live on Instagram around the same time as Ngannou was making his way to the ring for his Netflix debut.
During the stream, he revealed Conor McGregor’s return, announcing a bout with Max Holloway at International Fight Week’s UFC 329.
According to White, it wasn’t about Ngannou or Jake Paul. Instead, he claims his attention was entirely on the UFC event and promoting McGregor’s long-awaited comeback.
White addressed the talk surrounding his decision to reveal McGregor’s return right as Ngannou was making his walkout for Netflix. The UFC president made it clear he had no interest in what was happening in Los Angeles, claiming he was fully focused on an Apex Fight Night headlined by Arnold Allen and Melquizael Costa.
“Not a coincidence, I had a f—ing fight here that night,” White began. “Anyone who thinks I gave a s— what was going on anywhere else was out of their minds. We announced it as soon as we got it done and we were in the middle of our event.”
In case he wasn’t clear enough, he then added: “I could give a f— what those guys were doing, are you kidding me?”
White’s actions didn’t go unnoticed by others in the sport either. Ronda Rousey called the move ‘catty,’ while Jake Paul saw it as a compliment that such effort was being made to compete with his debut show as an MMA promoter.
