If it wasn’t obvious at the time, it is blatantly obvious now that Dana White made a huge mistake when he cut Muhammad Mokaev from the UFC.

Despite his seven fight win streak in the UFC and remaining undefeated whilst taking out several flyweight contenders, Muhammad Mokaev was shockingly cut from the promotion after a win at UFC 304.

UFC boss Dana White claimed that ‘The Punisher’ was a nightmare to deal with and that he was an issue behind the scenes for the matchmakers.

Since his axing, the 25-year-old has returned to the promotion where he began his professional MMA career, Brave CF, and this past Friday he returned to the cage with another spectacular win.

Dana White made a massive mistake cutting Mokaev

Even at the time Mokaev was cut from the premier promotion it seemed like a massive mistake by White and co., but since then, ‘The Punisher’ has continued to show why it definitely was a huge mistake.

Since being cut, the 25-year-old has gone on to score three wins in a row, becoming the Brave CF flyweight champion, and arguably the best flyweight fighter on the planet.

During his time in the promotion, there were a few instances in which Mokaev received criticism for his fight style, as he often utilises his grappling for the majority of his fights.

This past Friday, though, he scored himself an extremely impressive knockout win, showing that he has been working on his striking game, and it is paying dividends.

If he wasn’t already one of the most talented prospects in the sport, he certainly is now.

What makes his cutting even more bizarre is that the 125lb division in the UFC is crying out for new contenders, as Alexandre Pantoja has almost cleared out the division.

At UFC 323 on the final PPV of the year, Pantoja defends his title against Joshua Van, who since losing to Charles Johnson in July last year, has gone on to score five wins in a row, with his most recent coming against Brandon Royval in a potential Fight of the Year.

Could Mokaev end up re-signing with the UFC?

White isn’t the type of person to admit he was wrong, in anything. And he has historically shown that he is as stubborn as a mule.

With that, it makes a potential Mokaev re-signing unlikely. However, if Pantoja beats Van at UFC 323, there would be no one left for the Brazilian.

At that point, it would seem like a no-brainer that the promotion gives Mokaev another shot in the premier promotion, where he would almost undoubtedly eventually touch UFC gold.
