UFC leader Dana White is sure to ruffle some feathers with his latest ranking of the greatest welterweight to ever compete.
Sharing a rather topsy-turvy relationship with both current and all-time rankings in the promotion, Dana White tirelessly campaigned for Jon Jones to top the pound-for-pound list before his retirement.
And eventually claiming Islam Makhachev should receive the baton amid his final lightweight title exploit, White revealed plans to utilize Meta when it comes to future rankings parameters.
However, in his definitive ranking of the greatest welterweight fighters to set foot in the Octagon, White made a surprise pick.
Maintaining a rather cordial if not tumultuous relationship with iconic star Georges St-Pierre during his Octagon run, long-time promotional boss White is sure to turn heads with this latest pick.
Left with egg on his face when confirming St-Pierre’s return to action, White was forced to backtrack on a matchup he claimed was a done deal.
However, snubbing St-Pierre in his latest assessment of all-time welterweight talent, White claimed he was happy to debate anyone who considered Kamaru Usman less than the best 170lb star to walk the earth.
“You heard all the things that I said about you with your ‘30%’ comment, and now I’m sitting here today, and I’ll f—— — whoever wants to debate it with me, that you’re the greatest welterweight of all-time,” White told Usman on the Pound-4-Pound podcast.”
Gearing up for one final title push in his return to action, Usman has narrowed down a shortlist of stars he wants to fight next.
With a firm eye on proceedings next weekend at UFC 322, Usman has plans to recapture the welterweight crown — a belt he held for three active years.
Winning the crown from Tyron Woodley, Usman would defend against both Jorge Masvidal and arch-rival Colby Covington twice, in between a knockout win over former teammate Gilbert Burns.
