Dana White wasn’t moved at all by Jon Jones’ latest decision to retire – and then come out of retirement moments later.
During the week, Jones was seen in a video for Red Corner MMA telling media that he had ‘hung up his gloves’, and that he was now focusing on business. That retirement lasted minutes as he soon confirmed that he is not actually done with fighting just yet.
And after appearing cageside at UFC 327, he was interviewed on Paramount and declared that he was unsure about his fighting future. None of this appeared to interest promotional boss White, who already refused to give the sport’s greatest ever fighter a spot on the UFC White House card.
Jon Jones made his UFC debut in August of 2008, and Dana White has been dealing with his antics ever since. The New Yorker has won gold at heavyweight and light-heavyweight on a run that has earned him the crown of MMA’s greatest ever fighter.
But he is also a wildly controversial figure, with arrests, failed drug tests and cancelled fights in his chequered past. So when White heard that he had once again retired and come out of retirement this week, it barely registered on the UFC bosses’ radar.
Media member tells Dana White that Jon Jones said watching UFC 327 lit a fire under him and he's not committing to retiring. He asks if he's talk to him.

Dana White: No…Listen, how is that any different than Jon's been in the last 10 years?… I use to tell Lorenzo, 'You'll… pic.twitter.com/CTrx2ZMs9I
Asked if he had talked to Jones about a potential comeback, White replied: “No… Listen, how is that any different than Jon’s been in the last 10 years? I used to tell Lorenzo, ‘You’ll never be able to build a business with this guy,’ but when he does show up, it’s fun.”
Jones was cageside with his close friend Gable Steveson, whose signing with the UFC was announced live on the broadcast. And he claimed that watching an exciting night of action – which Joe Rogan branded one of the best cards ever – got him excited for the potential of a comeback.
