Daniel Cormier reiterates that he's retired from UFC

Daniel Cormier is telling anybody who will listen that he's retired from the UFC and won't be changing his mind about his career trajectory.

The 41-year-old who lost via unanimous decision to Stipe Miocic and came up short in his bid to reclaim the heavyweight championship at this month's UFC 252 show confirmed his retirement following that contest. He reiterated that he's hanging his gloves up for good during his latest appearance on the ESPN "DC & Helwani Show."

"I feel like I'm closing the door shut on this thing," Cormier explained. "I got a text message yesterday from [my assistant] asking me if I'm getting out of the USADA testing pool, and I told her yeah, I just haven't told them yet. I feel when you do that, you're pretty certain of your decision. ...

"Yeah, it's over. And I'm not sad about it. I'm going to miss it, I'm going to miss the training camps, I'm going to miss the fights, there's nothing like a fight week, but you have to understand when it's your time. I feel it's time."

Cormier works for the UFC as a commentator, and he's been linked with a move to WWE. Before UFC 252, UFC boss Dana White told ESPN he didn't believe Cormier would stay retired regardless of the fight's outcome.

Also on the "DC & Helwani Show," Cormier admitted that Miocic deserved to win the closing contest of their trilogy via decision. Cormier added that he won't require surgery to fix the torn cornea he suffered after Miocic inadvertently poked him in the eye during the match.
