The former UFC legend detailed what he has been battling unprompted.
Having retired in 2020, a lot of people consider Daniel Cormier to be an all-time great.
Cormier may not have made it onto one fighter’s Mount Rushmore but his accomplishments inside the Octagon speak for themselves as a former simultaneous two-weight champion.
Since laying the gloves down, ‘DC’ has remained an integral part of the sport as one of the UFC’s main commentators who also gives his thoughts on the biggest topics via several different shows.
During a recent episode of ESPN MMA’s ‘Good Guy / Bad Guy’, where Cormier pitched his ultimate UFC card, he temporarily paused the conversation to provide a health update.
The latest episode of ESPN MMA’s ‘Good Guy / Bad Guy’ saw Daniel Cormier reveal details of a recent health scare that led to him spending some time in hospital.
As always, ‘DC’ and Chael Sonnen covered various hot topics, from Conor McGregor claiming he’s been tested to Nate Diaz sending a message to Max Holloway.
It usually doesn’t take them too long to get off topic and after Sonnen complimented his co-host for how well he looked, Cormier replied that this hasn’t been the case in recent times.
Around the episode’s halfway mark, the former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion revealed that he’d recently suffered a serious allergic reaction.
Fortunately, it appears that Cormier has already battled this with some scratches on his body being the only lasting impact.
“I ended up in the hospital the other day Chael. I think it was this new marinade I made with my kid’s chicken. Bro, I had an allergic reaction. Benadryl didn’t work so I started scratching, I had hives all the way up my body from my legs to my neck. My nose and everything started swelling. I had to go to the hospital to get it done. It was bad Chael. I’ve got like scratches all over my body from just itching.”
For everything that Daniel Cormier achieved in his career, the UFC Hall of Famer never got to compete in MMA in his home state of Louisiana.
Last month, ‘DC’ was calling the action from New Orleans as a fighter that he’s been closely connected with for some time competed in his final fight.
Dustin Poirier got a remarkable send off at UFC 318 but Cormier’s emotional post-fight interview with ‘The Diamond’ wasn’t the only heart-warming moment that he got to tick off.
In a clip posted by ESPN MMA, Cormier got the chance to introduce Dana White to his son backstage, with the three of them sharing a brief interaction.
With his son, Daniel Jr. training as a wrestler, perhaps we will one day see him continue his father’s name inside the Octagon.
