Following a St. Patrick's Day White House meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor announced his plans to run for President of Ireland.
Fellow former two-division UFC champion Daniel Cormier thinks McGregor's aspirations to become President of Ireland are 'a little ridiculous.'
"To be a politician, he wants to be a politician. Hell, I think people in Ireland don't even like him," Cormier said on the Good Guy / Bad Guy Podcast. "Everybody I talk to are like, 'I can't stand this dude.' But I guess he feels like he has enough support to go into politics."
Since announced his intentions of running for the office, Irish politicians have come out in droves to denounce his candidacy. To Cormier, the entire situation is 'ridiculous.'
"It is a bit ridiculous," said Cormier. "The politics angle, for me, is a little bit ridiculous, but we'll see what happens."
In order to get his name on the ballot, McGregor has to have support from within the Parliament or local authorities. Irish presidential candidates must garner the support of 20 parliament members or the backing of four of Ireland's local authorities. So far, McGregor is facing an uphill battle to generate enough support to appear on November's ballot for the Irish presidency.
