Opening odds are out for the UFC Fight Night 259, or Noche UFC 3 event, and you may be surprised.
Former title challenger Diego Lopes has opened as a slight underdog against the always dangerous Jean Silva.
According to FanDuel, Lopes is currently sitting at a +150 underdog, with Silva a -194 favorite in this headlining match-up.
Lopes (26-7) is 5-2 inside the UFC Octagon and is coming off a championship loss to Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 314. It was a tough outing for the current #2-ranked featherweight, as he came up short by unanimous decision.
Prior to that loss, the Brazilian-born fighter, training out of Mexico, was on an impressive five-fight winning streak, with three stoppages against Gavin Tucker, Pat Sabatini and Sodiq Yusuff. And followed that up with back-to-back decision victories against Dan Ige and Brian Ortega to set up the title shot.
Silva (16-2) is undefeated in his UFC career, with five straight victories. Every single time this guy, whose nickname is ‘Lord’, enters the Octagon, you can expect excitement. He earned his shot in the UFC on Dana White’s Contender Series and followed that up with five straight stoppages.
In his debut, the 28-year-old earned a first-round TKO stoppage against Westin Wilson, he then stopped Charles Jourdain with a nasty uppercut, defeated Drew Dober by doctor’s stoppage, ground and pounded Melsik Baghdasaryan in the first round and most recently hit a nasty ninja choke against Bryce Mitchell to set up this main event tussle against Lopes.
Do the Diego Lopes vs Jean Silva odds surprise you?
