Dillon Danis believes that by next summer, he will not only be in the UFC but ready to join Conor McGregor on the biggest card of all time.
The controversial BJJ black belt will return to MMA this weekend on the undercard of a Misfits Boxing event when he faces Warren Spencer. The show is headlined by Darren Till and Luke Rockhold at the AO Arena in Manchester, and also features Tony Ferguson against Salt Papi.
It will be Danis’ first full professional contest since the summer of 2019, and his return to the ring after a 2023 boxing bout with Logan Paul. And he claims to have had discussions with Dana White’s right hand man in the UFC; Hunter Campbell, with a potential move to the promotion in the works.
On July 4 next year, the UFC will bring the octagon to the White House lawn for a massive event that is expected to feature a super-card of action. Dana White has teased a number of big fights, insisting that it will be the best card in history.
And speaking with Bloody Elbow in Manchester, Danis noted that he feels he will be joining his returning teammate Conor McGregor on the event. ‘Hopefully I’ll be on that card with Conor,” he teased, before dismissing Tony Ferguson as a potential opponent.
“He might have to get himself a couple of MMA wins,” Danis joked when asked about Ferguson, whom he was set to face in the GFL this year. “He might have to fight me first to bring him back but hey, Tony’s a legend and I don’t know about that.”
Danis also noted that he has held talks with Dana White’s right hand man Hunter Campbell over a move to the UFC. Nowadays, much of the day-to-day of the UFC’s top brass is controlled by Campbell, whose official title is Chief Business Officer.
“Hunter just wants me to stay active,” Danis explained. “He was like ‘you get a couple of fights in, we got you’. He wants to see me active because it has been six years. He knows I’d run through all those guys in the top 15.
“So he said ‘if you come in and you’re 2-0 it might look bad for the company’. They were like ‘get a couple wins so when you come in and smash Kevin Holland and all these bums make sure you’re not 2-0’.
“I run through all of them and it would make the company look bad. Last time I talked to Hunter was about three months ago, maybe. I can’t remember because I get hit in the head too much. Sean Shelby and Hunter keep an eye on everything.”
