Dillon Danis appears to have been cruising for a bruising at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night, no matter what happened.
The renowned BJJ black belt and current Misfits MMA champion was attacked by a gang of Islam Makhachev’s teammates after goading the two-weight champion for weeks on social media. And he has since been banned for life from attending UFC events by Dana White.
However, had Danis somehow managed to avoid the swarms of Makhachev teammates and supporters, it looks as though he was in for a different kind of beating. After a social media back-and-forth, Jorge Masvidal has confirmed that he had plans to get physical with Danis before realizing he was too late.
It’s no secret to MMA fans that Dillon Danis is not a popular figure within the fighter community. He is regularly seen mocking rivals on social media, and had spent a chunk of fight week going back-and-forth with the original BMF champion Jorge Masvidal.
Speaking on his podcast Death Row MMA, the former fighter explained: “We’re not going to mention this f—er’s name but he did get his a– beat by the Muslim brotherhood, who stole it from me because I was literally on my way to whoop this motherf—er’s a–.
“He sent me a couple messages and I was like ‘alright cool, keep sending me these messages brother, we’re going to have to see each other’. Bo [Nickal] gets that knockout and they show the replay and guess who’s there?
“So I told the UFC immediately ‘this fan experience is over I want to go to my seat please, I start walking over to my seat from the VIP room and I run into ‘Chanco’ [Magomed Zaynukov] and I’m like ‘what’s up man’ because police are all over him.
“I go ‘what happened brother?’ and I see his hands are bloody so I’m like ‘nah, look at your hands, what happened your hands?’ He goes ‘oh no, all good bro, little problem I took care of it. I said ‘okay, alright, alright.
“So UFC starts running at me telling me ‘you stay right here, don’t move, what just happened, what did you get into?’ They’re grabbing me and holding me, I’m like ‘bro I just got here, I wish I could have got into something’.
“By the time I got out to the main event all the good fun was taken already, Dillon Danis had already got f—ing mopped up, kicked in the f—ing face. They made him eat s—, made him lick the floor, then they kicked his a– out and banned him. Sucks for you p—-.”
The news that Masvidal was attempting to scrap with Danis will come as no shock to UFC boss Dana White. He even mentioned during his post-fight press conference that someone had made him aware of trouble brewing between the two.
“I blame myself for that, actually,” White said of the entire incident. “They came back and told me right before I walked out for the main card that Dillon Danis was here and he was moving around, sitting in fighters’ seats and not sitting in his own seat that he had, he had a ticket.
“They said, ‘Do you want us to throw him out of here?’ And I said, ‘He has a ticket?’ They told me, ‘[Jorge] Masvidal said he’s gonna f— him up on sight.’ I said, ‘Well, where is Masvidal sitting?’ He’s sitting six or seven rows away from Masvidal.
“I said, ‘If the guy has a ticket, let him sit in his seat, let him keep doing what he’s doing and keep an eye on him.’ It never even crossed my mind, as stupid as this could be, that the entire Muslim Brotherhood was here tonight in the first five rows for Islam.”
