One of the biggest fights of the year is set to unfold Saturday night at UFC 318 in New Orleans, as hometown hero Dustin Poirier takes on Max Holloway for the BMF title—marking the final fight of Poirier’s storied career.
Poirier enters with a professional record of 30-9-1 and has faced Holloway twice before. Their most recent bout in 2019 ended in a unanimous decision victory for Poirier, while their first meeting in 2012 resulted in a first-round submission win for “The Diamond.”
Now, for the third and final time, the two icons will meet in the Octagon—with Poirier aiming to end his career on a high note, and Holloway determined to spoil the retirement sendoff.
“Every tear, every drop of blood, every drop of sweat was worth it," Poirier said. "If I could go back to when I was 17 years old, I would do it again. I want this to be the best fight; it’s my last one. I’m trying to be in the moment and make the most out of the last ride. I want a war like this is going to be. A Fight of the Night type of fight.
“At UFC 318, New Orleans, Louisiana, I will beat Max Holloway and be the BMF champion. I’m the reason why the UFC is coming back to Louisiana, so this is special for me. All my people are there. This is what dreams are made of. I couldn’t have written this, this is beautiful."
Adding to the excitement, Poirier announced that Louisiana rap legend Lil Wayne will accompany him during his walkout, making for a memorable entrance in front of his home crowd.
