Body-camera footage from Dustin Poirier's Father's Day arrest in Georgia reveals the former UFC interim lightweight champion challenged a police officer to fight and grew increasingly combative before being taken into custody.
Poirier was booked at 6:38 p.m. ET on June 21 following an incident at an Atlanta airport, TMZ Sports reported. The 37-year-old was released roughly four hours later after being charged with public drunkenness, a misdemeanor. Video released Tuesday by the Atlanta Police Department shows what happened before officers placed him in handcuffs.
When the first officer arrived, Poirier immediately became confrontational. "Man, f*ck you, bro," he said, per the footage obtained by MMA Mania. He then dropped his backpack and appeared to square up. "I'll fight you right now. I'll go with you right now. Let's go."
As the officer backed away and radioed for backup, Poirier continued moving toward him. The officer eventually drew his taser. "You gonna tase me?" Poirier asked. "You gonna tase me, dog? I'm gonna bang you up." Once a second officer arrived, the footage cut to Poirier surrendering with his hands behind his back. Moments later, he gave the first officer a fist bump and told him he did "a great job."
Poirier has not addressed the footage in detail. Shortly after news of the arrest broke, he posted on Instagram: "Love you all. I'm working on myself."
