Elkins Retires After 16 Years In UFC

Darren Elkins called time on his 16-year UFC career Saturday night after a 35-second TKO loss to Yadier del Valle at UFC Vegas 120.

The 42-year-old featherweight's retirement fight ended quickly when del Valle stopped him in the opening minute of the undercard bout, according to MMA Mania. Elkins finishes with a 29-13 record and went 19-12 inside the octagon.

Elkins Grateful Despite Quick Finish In Final Fight

Elkins told reporters he found peace with the abrupt ending. "Obviously, it's not the ending I wanted, but that's life," he said at the post-fight press conference. "You don't always get the ending you want. I had a chance to do it at least. Most people don't get that chance. So I wanted my happy ending, but shoot, man. I've had so many happy endings in my life. I'm thankful. I'm thankful that I have my health. I have my family. It's emotional, but, man, was it a fun ride."

The Indiana native admitted he stayed active longer than ideal. His last win came against Daniel Pineda in October 2024, and he exits on back-to-back stoppage defeats. Elkins said he felt relief alongside the emotion and praised the promotion for supporting him throughout his tenure.

He thanked UFC brass for the opportunity and described a working relationship built on showing up on time, making weight, and never complaining. Elkins said the organization knew what they were getting from him every fight.
