Former world champ questions UFC legend Chael Sonnen for taking on Anderson Silva in a boxing bout
Paul Miller-USA TODAY Sports

The greatest trash talker in MMA history is ready to take on the mic again. Chael Sonnen has decided to come out of retirement and take on Anderson Silva . Sonnen and Silva have revived their old rivalry with an upcoming boxing showdown next month. While many fight fans are excited, UFC veteran Ben Askren has some different opinions on the much-anticipated clash.

During the latest interview with Daniel Cormier on the Funky and the Champ show, Askren talked about his concerns. According to the retired fighter, Chael Sonnen should not fight Anderson Silva who is a great striker and is fairly active.

Chael, I love you, I don’t know why you’re boxing. At least when I took my boxing fight, I thought [Jake Paul] sucked…I really don’t know why Chael’s doing it. Anderson is a very good striker, he’s actually had multiple boxing matches . Ben Askren via Funky and the Champ

Ben Askren himself fought YouTuber turned-boxer Jake Paul in a boxing match and got dropped. Given his own experience, Askren probably doesn’t want Sonnen to go through the same path as him. Nevertheless, it seems like Sonnen is highly looking forward to the fight.

Sonnen and Silva have shared the octagon on two different occasions and the result was the same in both fights. At UFC 117, Sonnen dominated the fight, however, he got choked out by the ‘Spider’ at the very end. The fight is still regarded as one of the all-time classics. In the second fight at UFC 148, Silva made it quick and finished Sonnen in the second round. Ahead of the bout, Sonnen must be looking to his revenge against a former rival

Chael Sonnen reveals how his fight with Anderson Silva came to fruition

The announcement regarding boxing was unpredictable and very sudden for many fight fans. Initially, there was news about Anderson Silva fighting Terry Crews. However, recently the legendary fighter snubbed that idea and the Sonnen fight was finalized.

Chael Sonnen has now come out and said that he already knew about the potential of the fight. However, the veteran wasn’t so sure about it.

There had been little dialogue happening. I started changing the way I was eating. I started getting back on that treadmill a little bit more. But I didn't fully believe that.  Chael Sonnen via ESPNMMA

It’s been five years since Sonnen last participated in a professional bout. On the other hand, Silva has been busy taking part in boxing bouts. It’s clear that on paper, Silva is the current favorite. Nevertheless, fight fans are more excited for the press conferences as the ‘American Gangster’ makes his return.
