Patchy Mix has been released by the UFC after losing back-to-back fights in the Octagon.
The last Bellator bantamweight champion had a 20-1 record and was dreaming of winning another 135lb title when he switched promotions in 2025.
Patchy Mix talked up fights with Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili before his UFC debut last June.
Now, he’s fighting for another MMA league after being ruthlessly cut by UFC CEO Dana White.
Patchy Mix faced ‘fraud check’ criticism after enduring a dreadful debut at UFC 316.
Mario Bautista easily beat the 32-year-old at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Four months later, Mix looked to get his UFC career back on track against Jakub Wikłacz.
The former KSW bantamweight champion picked up a split decision victory when they fought at UFC 320.
Daniel Cormier thought Mix won the fight, but he was given his marching orders from the UFC soon after.
Mix will return to MMA in a featherweight fight against Kyoma Akimoto at RIZIN 52 on March 7.
“My release, the process was kind of after the last fight,” he said at a pre-fight press conference.
“I waited about five, six weeks, and then Ali [Abdelaziz] told me I was going to be released.
“I started searching and thinking what I wanna do with my career. I beat a lot of guys in other organizations, even this organization, but the main thing was to go up to featherweight to rebrand.
“I wanna show Patch 2.0. I haven’t had fun in a long time because I’m just cutting so much weight to make the weight.
“This transition is going to be important for my career, and RIZIN was a no-brainer.”
