Conor McGregor has reunited with his long-time coach after a ‘spiritual journey’, and camp will soon begin for his return to the octagon.

The Irishman will have been out of action for the best part of five years by the time the UFC’s White House event rolls around in June. He was due to return in the summer of last year at UFC 303, but his comeback was shut down when he suffered a broken toe.

His opponent has stayed the same for the nearly three years that McGregor has been touting a return; Michael Chandler. And he has been in touch with coach John Kavanagh to put together a camp that would have him ready for competition by June.

After a seemingly never-ending run of parties for the past few years, Conor McGregor abruptly decided last month to quit social media. Since then, he has claimed to have undergone a month-long ‘spiritual journey’ that has returned his competitive edge of old.

While fans are no longer seeing his outbursts about other fighters and general issues on social media, he is still very passionate. And speaking on the Ariel Helwani Show tonight on Uncrowned, coach John Kavanagh confirmed he is receiving texts from his old charge indicating a major spark of interest.

“On our end, we are 100 per cent in,” Kavanagh said of the White House event. “He has asked me to basically lay out a program between now and June for how we will ramp up our training. He’s showing up again, back in the gym most mornings early.

“He’s having fun with it but I got a bunch of messages after the show on Saturday that he wants to fight everybody. Certainly he wants to get on that card, so how it works from the management point of view, that’s between them and I don’t really get involved in that.

“But from a training point of view? He’s already tasked me with a team with suitable training partners. We’ll do some of it in the gym, some of it in his house and he is fully locked in that we are going to be making the walk in what is it? Six, seven months?”
