Yoel Romero has a new opponent for Friday’s Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA 10 main event after Hector Lombard withdrew from their scheduled matchup. Alex Nicholson replaces Lombard in the light heavyweight clash at Unrivaled Arena in Miami, according to a social media post from promotion owner Jorge Masvidal.
The reason for Lombard’s pullout remains unclear, per Sherdog. Romero, a 48-year-old former UFC middleweight title challenger, makes his Gamebred debut coming off a disputed decision loss to Vagab Vagabov at IBA Bare Knuckle 4 in Russia on March 28. Nicholson holds a 3-2 record under the Gamebred banner after posting a 20-13 mark across stints in UFC and PFL.
The card still features the opening rounds of 16-man heavyweight and lightweight tournaments with $500,000 on the line for each winner, as MMA Mania reports. Luis Palomino meets Darrell Horcher in the lightweight co-main event. Heavyweights Ronny Markes and Fabio Maldonado compete on a main card that also includes lightweights Kurt Holobaugh and Jordan Griffin.
The prelims begin at 7 p.m. ET with the main card following at 9 p.m. ET. The entire broadcast streams free on YouTube. Romero has dabbled in multiple bareknuckle and alternative striking formats since his last standard MMA appearance, a decision win over Thiago Santos at a PFL vs. Bellator event in February 2024.
Marcos Rogerio de Lima faces Tafon Nchukwi in another heavyweight tournament bout while Brandon Girtz takes on John Teixeira at lightweight. The full card includes 11 main-card matchups and three prelim fights, though the lineup remains subject to change.
