11 years after suffering her one and only loss in MMA, Gina Carano is set to return to the cage to finally fight Ronda Rousey.
This Tuesday morning, it was surprisingly announced that after 10 years out of action, Ronda Rousey will be returning to the MMA cage to take on Gina Carano on May 16.
The two have long been linked to fight each other despite Carano having never fought under the UFC banner.
And when ‘Conviction’ recently shared footage of her back on the mats training, fans immediately put two and two together, linking her to a fight against Rousey.
However, the most surprising aspect of their fight scheduled to take place from the Intuit Dome, is that it will be promoted by Most Valuable Promotions, Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian’s boxing promotion.
Prior to the news of Rousey vs Carano, the former UFC women’s bantamweight champion was surprisingly linked to a boxing fight against Katie Taylor, but fortunately that didn’t come to fruition.
And according to Carano, ‘Rowdy’ Ronda told her that a fight against her was the only fight she would make a comeback for, calling it her ‘dream’ fight.
“Ronda came to me and said there is only one person she would make a comeback for and it has been her dream to make this fight happen between us,” Carano said in a press release.
“She thanked me for opening up doors for her in her career and was respectful in asking for this fight to happen. This is an honor.
“I believe I will walk out of this fight with the win and I anticipate it will not come easy, which I welcome. This is as much for Ronda and me as it is for the fans and mixed martial arts community. What a time to be alive.”
Despite the general feeling in the MMA world being excitement that ‘Rowdy’ Ronda is returning to action, her return doesn’t come without its concerns.
Just last year, the 39-year-old admitted to ongoing neurological issues, which affected the back-end of her career in the sport.
Rousey stated that during training, she used to ‘basically go blind’ after suffering a jab, which led to widespread concern for her future in combat sports.
