RoboCop: A New Contender in the Middleweight Division After UFC Sacramento

Early in 2025, Gregory “RoboCop” Rodrigues was in a position where he was to steamroll an aging Jared Cannonier and waltz in the realm of the elite at 185 pounds. Things didn’t exactly go according to plan, and he found himself rebuilding his status as a fighter to watch over the last 18 months.

RoboCop made an ambitious call out after his win in Sacramento, he called out top middleweight and former champion, Dricus Du Plessis. DDP vs RoboCop is so crazy it might just make sense, it is another step up in competition and should give the fans an all-action striking affair. It will give Rodrigues another chance to prove his main event caliber, and a chance to prove that he is continuing to sure up any holes in his game, as a lot of fans still want to see improved striking defense from the newly minted contender.

DDP is another fighter who can absolutely crack, has submission skills and grappling ability and is fresh off of a 25 minutes dissection of the legendary Kamaru Usman, albeit up a weight class for the Nigerian Nightmare.

Dricus would pose an entirely new challenge for RoboCop, but would also give fans an extremely exciting matchup and give the middleweight division a lot of extra excitement if the UFC honors Rodrigues call out. If the UFC goes a different direction, Rodrigues has said he would only fight Brenden Allen if it for a #1 contender spot, so that could leave another high action fighter like Joe Pyfer on Rodrigues hit list, or maybe an All-Brazilian affair against Fighting Nerd Caio Borralho.

Regardless it is in the UFC’s best interest to keep Rodrigues in high regards, as his fan friendly style is something to capitalize on while you can.
