Ilia Topuria done with featherweight, wants Charles Oliveira fight

Despite many fans expecting a long title reign for him at featherweight, Ilia Topuria has made a shocking revelation regarding his future in the sport.

‘El Matador’ has proven the doubters wrong time and time again, and is hoping to do so once again with his next career choice. After knocking out Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski in back to back outings, the 27-year-old has his sights set away from the division.

Speaking to a Spanish media outlet, Ilia Topuria revealed that his time as featherweight champion is coming to an end.

Topuria wants to test the waters at 155 lbs in the near future and has a name in mind for his return to the weight class.

“Maybe there’s a change coming,” Topuria detailed during an interview with Spanish sports radio El Partidazo de COPE. “Yes, very likely [you saw my last fight at featherweight].”

“I’d like to move up to the next weight class, and since Islam [Makhachev] is the champion fighting in January, and he won’t be ready…”

“I’d like to fight against the No. 1 contender right now, who’s Charles Oliveira.”
